Protesters Rally in Hollywood Against Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension

More than 100 protesters gathered outside the El Capitan Entertainment Centre on Hollywood Boulevard on Thursday, following ABC’s decision to suspend “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The suspension came after host Jimmy Kimmel made controversial remarks about the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Demonstrators held signs reading “Don’t bend the knee to Trump” and “Douse the Mouse,” expressing their discontent with what they view as censorship.

The suspension was prompted by comments Kimmel made on his show regarding the shooting of Charlie Kirk, who was killed on September 10 while speaking at a university event in Utah. Kimmel criticized the response from President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, which led to backlash from broadcasters and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Brendan Carr. Carr accused Kimmel of misleading the public and threatened legal action against ABC and its parent company, Disney.

Critics argue that Kimmel’s suspension violates his First Amendment rights. Democratic FCC commissioner Anna Gomez criticized the move, stating that political violence should not be used as justification for censorship. The Writers Guild of America and several Hollywood figures, including actor Ben Stiller, have also spoken out against the suspension, citing it as an infringement on free speech.

Nexstar Media and Sinclair Broadcast Group, major affiliates of ABC, have pulled Kimmel’s show, citing his comments as offensive. Meanwhile, some argue that the suspension is a consequence of Kimmel’s actions rather than an example of cancel culture. House Democrat leaders have called for Carr’s resignation, accusing him of abusing his power to influence ABC’s decision.

Kimmel has not commented publicly since the suspension.
