Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who is running for California governor, faces criticism over his crime-solving record. A report by the San Francisco-based Center on Juvenile & Criminal Justice (CJCJ) highlights that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department solved only 9.2% of violent and property crimes from 2019 to 2024, the lowest rate in California.
According to the CJCJ report, Riverside County also experienced a significant rise in violent crime during Bianco’s tenure, with rates increasing by 18%, outpacing the state average. The report criticizes Bianco’s claims of improving public safety, noting that Riverside County’s fentanyl death rate is 22% above the state average.
Bianco, however, dismissed the report as a “political hit piece” and argued that the state data is “fatally flawed.” He defended his department, stating that the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office is one of the most efficient in the country, as reported by KTLA.
Despite Bianco’s defense, the report raises questions about his ability to lead California as governor, given his department’s performance.
