Costco Begins Controversial Food Court Change

Costco has begun plans to switch from Pepsi to Coca-Cola products at its food courts.

The Coca-Cola Company confirmed that its products “began rolling out across all Costco warehouses” at the beginning of July in a statement to FOX Business. The change to Coca-Cola is expected to be concluded in all stores by the fall.

Costco CEO Ron Vachris confirmed the previously reported change during a shareholder meeting in January.

“This summer we will be converting our food court fountain business back over to Coca Cola,” Vachris said via the Daily Mail.

The Costco Insider Instagram account previously reported the soda chain in a post shared on December 18. Costco had previously switched from Coca-Cola to Pepsi products in 2013 as a cost-saving way to keep its popular hot dog and soda combo at $1.50.

Costco also increased its annual membership fees for its U.S. and Canada customers in September for the first time since June 2017, the Associated Press reports.

The “gold star” and business membership price increased from $60 to $65, while the executive membership fee increased from $120 to $130, effective September 1. The big-box warehouse club retail chain’s membership offers discounts on food, gas, home insurance and grocery items, as well as an annual 2% reward on qualified purchases.
