Rebecca Grossman, co-founder of the Grossman Burn Foundation, is seeking to move the trial of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the family of two boys she fatally struck with her car out of Los Angeles County. Grossman, who was sentenced in 2024 to 15 years to life in prison, was found guilty of second-degree murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and hit-and-run driving in the deaths of Mark and Jacob Iskander, aged 11 and 8, on September 29, 2020.
The boys’ family, including parents Karim and Nancy Iskander and brother Zachary, filed the civil suit in Van Nuys Superior Court. They are seeking to have the trial moved, possibly to Tulare County, as reported by Daily News. The trial is scheduled for December 1.
Grossman and her then-boyfriend, former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson, were reportedly racing their vehicles when the tragedy occurred. Erickson is also named in the civil suit. According to MyNewsLA, the Iskander family’s attorneys are seeking information about Grossman’s financial assets to pursue punitive damages, arguing her actions were malicious.
A judge recently denied the family’s request for an expedited trial, citing that Erickson, a co-defendant, was not criminally convicted, and granting the motion would prejudice him. The judge noted that all parties had previously agreed to the current trial date, as reported by FOX 11.
