Storm System Expected to Drop Rain in Southland Saturday

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Cloudy conditions will continue across the Southland Saturday with a low-pressure system expected to drop rain across much of the region.

Showers could begin in Ventura and Los Angeles counties as early as 5 a.m., according to the National Weather Service, with a chance of some thunderstorms in the mountains of northern Los Angeles County. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms extending south into coastal and valley areas.

Rainfall totals are expected to range from one-third to two-thirds of an inch in most areas, with some parts of western Los Angeles County possibly seeing up to an inch, forecasters said.

Snow levels will be between 4,500 and 5,500 feet on Saturday, with several inches of accumulation possible at higher elevations.

“At this point, it appears that snow levels will be too high to bring any significant snow accumulations to higher portions of Interstate 5 near the Grapevine,” according to the NWS.

High temperatures on Saturday are expected to be 10 to 20 degrees below normal in most areas, possibly 25 degrees below normal in the Antelope Valley and the mountains.

The rain should taper off by Saturday night, but cloudy conditions will persist into Sunday morning, giving way to partly cloudy skies later Sunday.

Warmer weather is anticipated by early next week, with some valley areas reaching into the 80s by Tuesday.
