LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A San Gabriel Valley woman was charged Friday with importing and selling counterfeit luxury goods, including Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and others.
Chaoyan Zhang, 33, of San Gabriel, was charged with four counts of trafficking in counterfeit goods or services, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Her arraignment is scheduled for May 8 in downtown Los Angeles.
According to court documents, law enforcement last month learned that Mitchelle Inc., where Zhang worked, was allegedly importing and distributing counterfeit luxury goods. The business was located inside a superstore in San Gabriel, prosecutors said.
Among the counterfeit items allegedly trafficked were luxury-brand clothing, accessories and other items, including Gucci, Valentino, Chanel, Christian Dior, Louis Vuitton, among others. The boxes listed Hong Kong as the sender location.
Zhang allegedly sold about nine counterfeit luxury brand items to a buyer for nearly $490, court papers show.
Law enforcement seized all counterfeit items, and prosecutors said that if the items had been genuine, they would have been worth about $1 million.
If convicted, Zhang would face up to 10 years in federal prison for each count, prosecutors said.
