LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A 40-year-old man suspected of hitting and injuring a 5-year-old bulldog was in custody Friday.
Los Angeles Police Department Central Division officers responded to a radio call on March 19, around 7:15 a.m., regarding an animal cruelty investigation near the 600 block of South Spring Street, between Broadway and Main Street.
Officers met with the reporting party, who showed them a video of Donald Jeffe walking in a hallway and striking a dog with a metal leash. The dog was later identified as a bulldog named Rusty, police said. Officers completed a crime report for animal cruelty and cleared the location.
Detectives conducted a follow-up investigation on March 24 and obtained additional video evidence showing Jeffe striking the dog on multiple occasions, police said. The dog received treatment from a veterinarian on the same day and was subsequently released back into the custody of the suspect.
Jeffe was arrested at 2:06 p.m. Thursday on one count of suspicion of felony animal cruelty by detectives from the Central Division Burglary Unit after they served a search warrant near the 600 block of South Spring Street, police said.
