Loma Alta Park in Altadena, home to the Central Altadena Little League, is set to reopen after being damaged by the Eaton Fire in January. The restoration of the park’s baseball fields is underway, thanks to the support of the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. The fields have been closed since the fire, but the Dodgers Foundation has stepped in to help restore them, ensuring local children have a place to play and find a sense of normalcy.
Phillip Pollerana, president of the Central Altadena Little League and a former player, expressed his gratitude for the restoration efforts. “We’re going to make sure that our kids have a place to play and an outlet to be able to come and kind of have a sense of normalcy,” he said. Despite losing his home in the fire, Pollerana is focused on rebuilding the community.
The project, set to be completed by May 17, will feature two “dream fields” with amenities like sod, fencing, and a scoreboard similar to Dodger Stadium’s. Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Dodgers Foundation, described the fields as “outdoor classrooms” that provide a safe space and energy for the community.
The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, with support from various partners, is also involved in the revitalization of Loma Alta Park. The park will be enhanced with new facilities and services, making it a “super park” for the community. According to LA County Parks, the park will reopen by May 10, with volunteer days in April dedicated to replanting and cleaning.
