567,000 Portable Battery Chargers Sold At Costco Recalled After House Fires

An urgent recall has been issued for over 567,000 portable chargers sold at Costco due to a fire risk. The recall covers the following three models of the myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh portable charger; AO10FK-A, AO10FK-B, and AO10FK-C.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said there have been 120 reports of the chargers overheating and two instances of home fires.

The fires caused an estimated $165,000 in damage.

“Costco received 115 returns of the portable chargers mentioning melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking,” the commission said.

The CPSC said that customers should stop using the chargers immediately and visit myCharge’s recall page for information on how to obtain a replacement.

“Recalled lithium-ion batteries should be disposed of in accordance with any local and state ordinances, following the procedures established by your municipal recycling center for damaged/defective/recalled lithium batteries, because these potentially hazardous batteries must be handled differently than other batteries,” the commission noted. “Do not throw this recalled battery in the trash. Do not deposit this recalled battery in used battery recycling boxes found at various retail and home improvement stores.”
