EL MONTE (CNS) – Motorists traveling through El Monte this weekend will encounter extended lane reductions and ramp closures on southbound Interstate 605 as Caltrans crews conduct paving work as part of the Super 605 freeway improvement project.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, July 24, southbound I-605 between Valley Boulevard and State Route 60 will be reduced to one lane until 4 a.m. Saturday. Two lanes will remain open from 4 a.m. Saturday until 11 p.m. Sunday, when the freeway will again be reduced to one lane until all lanes reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, according to Caltrans.
Several ramps also will be closed throughout the weekend, including the southbound I-605 Valley Boulevard off-ramp, both Valley Boulevard on-ramps to southbound I-605 and the eastbound and westbound Interstate 10 connectors to southbound I-605.
Caltrans said demolition of old freeway pavement will begin Friday night, and nearby residents and businesses may experience noise, vibrations and dust during construction.
Motorists were urged to avoid the area during construction and use alternate routes, including Interstate 110, Interstate 710 and State Route 57.
The work is part of the Super 605 Freeway Enhancement Project, which is rehabilitating Interstate 605 from Long Beach to the San Gabriel Valley.
