A woman was stabbed in the neck in what Los Angeles police believe may have been a random attack in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday, leaving her in critical condition and prompting a manhunt that ended hours later with a suspect in custody.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the stabbing occurred around 10:15 a.m. at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Hope Street. Officers responded quickly to the scene as the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
By around 2 p.m., police had taken a person into custody near 5th Street and Flower Street, several blocks from where the attack took place. Authorities have not yet released details about the suspect but they believe the attack was random and unprovoked.
The attack adds to recent concerns about public safety in downtown Los Angeles. Earlier this month, NBC Los Angeles reported that a separate stabbing on March 22 injured four people at a club on the 500 block of West 7th Street. In that incident, a woman armed with a knife attacked multiple victims before leaving the scene and possibly injuring herself. Two suspects were taken into custody in connection with that attack and face four counts of assault with a deadly weapon each.
No additional details about Tuesday’s suspect or the victim’s current condition have been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
