Woman Killed During Conjugal Visit with California Inmate

A woman was strangled to death during a conjugal visit with her husband, David Brinson, a convicted murderer serving life without parole, at Mule Creek State Prison in Ione, California. The incident occurred in November, but details have recently emerged, confirming the cause of death as strangulation, according to Amador County Sheriff Gary Redman.

David Brinson, 54, was convicted in 1993 for the execution-style murders of four men during a robbery in Los Angeles County. During the visit, Brinson alerted prison officers around 2 a.m. on November 13, 2024, claiming his wife, Stephanie Brinson, 62, had passed out. Despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead before 3 a.m., as reported by The Los Angeles Times.

Conjugal visits, also known as family visits, are held in private facilities on prison grounds and are limited to immediate family members. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) allows these visits to last 30 to 40 hours. David Brinson has since been transferred to the California Health Care Facility in Stockton, which caters to inmates with long-term medical or mental health needs.

Amador County District Attorney Todd Riebe has confirmed that the homicide investigation is ongoing, with David Brinson as the primary suspect. However, charges have not been filed as the district attorney’s office awaits the full report from Mule Creek State Prison and the completed autopsy report, according to Yahoo News.
