34-year-old woman from Queensland, Australia, is facing numerous charges for allegedly poisoning a one-year-old baby and posting videos online to solicit donations. The woman, who has not been identified, was charged with five counts of administering poison with intent to harm, three counts of preparation to commit crimes with dangerous things, and one count each of torture, making child exploitation material, and fraud. The charges carry potential sentences of five to 20 years in prison.
According to Queensland Police, the woman administered unauthorized prescription and pharmacy medicines to the child between August 6 and October 15, 2024. She allegedly filmed the child in distress to gain sympathy and raised over $37,000 through GoFundMe. The fundraising platform is now issuing refunds to donors.
Detective Inspector Paul Dalton stated that the child is now “safe” and doing “well.” He emphasized the severity of the crime, saying, “There are no words to describe just how repulsive offenses of this nature are.”
The woman’s alleged actions were uncovered when hospital staff in Brisbane, where the child was being treated for a serious medical condition, alerted authorities. Police then launched an investigation, consulting medical experts and analyzing the woman’s social media activity.
