Wiener Nationals Return to Los Alamitos Race Course

Southern California’s top dachshunds are gearing up for the 28th annual Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals at Los Alamitos Race Course. The event, scheduled for Saturday night (July 12), will see around 100 dachshunds competing in 50-yard trial heats. The winners of these heats will advance to the championship race, vying for a $1,000 cash prize and the title of fastest wiener dog.

The Wiener Nationals is not just about fun and competition; it also serves a charitable purpose. All proceeds from the event will go to the Seal Beach Animal Care Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for stray animals in the Orange County area. Since its inception in 1996, the event has raised approximately $315,000 for the Care Center through ticket and t-shirt sales.

Fans attending the event can pick up a free program at the main track entrances. This program will feature information about the participants, the schedule of events, and details about the Seal Beach Animal Care Center. Those interested in entering their dachshund can call 714-820-2690 or email larace@losalamitos.com for more information.
