White Rice Recalled Over Possible Foreign Material Contamination

A class II recall was issued for white rice sold across the United States due to a “possible presence of foreign material.”

Lundberg Family Farms confirmed to USA TODAY that it issued a voluntary Class II recall on approximately 4,500 cases of 2-pound Regenerative Organic Certified White Jasmine Rice pouches out of an abundance of caution. Wegmans also issued the recall for 2-pound bags of Lundberg Organic Jasmine Rice on April 4 and noted the potential foreign material, however, didn’t provide any additional details.

The Universal Product Code for the items affected by the recall is 073416-040281 and the affected lot codes are 260201 with a best-by date of Feb. 1, 2027, and 260202 with a best-by date of Feb. 2, 2027.

The brand of rice is also sold at several national grocery store chains including Walmart, Target, Whole Foods and Giant, however, none have issued a recall notice as of Monday (April 13). The U.S. Food & Drug Administration also hadn’t yet published details on a possible recall as of Monday.

A Class II recall is “a situation in which use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Consumers who have the product are advised to return it for a full refund or throw it away.
