The White House has announced that First Lady Dr. Jill Biden will lead the United States delegation to the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Paris on July 26, 2024. Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will lead the delegation to the closing ceremony on August 11, 2024.
Senator Tammy Duckworth will lead the delegation to the Opening of the Paralympic Games on August 28, 2024. Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services, will lead the delegation to the Closing of the Paralympic Games, which will take place on September 8, 2024.
Dr. Biden is also expected to attend some of the Olympic events during her trip to Paris.
This is not the first time Dr. Biden has attended the Olympics. She previously led the U.S. delegation to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, which were rescheduled to the summer of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The U.S. did not send an official delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing due to human rights abuses in China.
