West Hollywood officials have ordered the owner of a stalled construction site, dubbed the “coyote condo,” to address the presence of a pack of coyotes that have taken over the property.
The site, intended for a 22-unit condominium building, has remained vacant since construction halted in 2024. Residents have expressed concerns over nightly howling and barking, prompting the city to take action.
The property owner, Clement Tung, has been instructed to hire a licensed wildlife control operator to assess and humanely remove the coyotes. According to ABC7 Chicago, the city emphasizes non-lethal management, aiming to ensure the safety of both residents and the animals.
Residents have shared videos of coyotes lounging on balconies and strolling around the site. While most are not worried about attacks, the noise has been a significant disturbance. KABC-TV reports that the city has a coyote management plan in place, focusing on coexistence and safety.
Wildlife expert Mary Cummins explained that coyotes generally do not pose a threat to humans. She suggested exclusion and deterrence as effective methods to encourage the animals to leave the area. Residents are advised to keep small pets indoors.
The city continues to work with L.A. County agencies to address the situation. The timeline for the removal of the coyotes remains unclear, but efforts are underway to resolve the issue promptly.
