Authorities in Los Angeles are searching for a man who attempted to abduct an 11-year-old girl in broad daylight. The Los Angeles Police Department said that the incident happened on Monday (October 21) around 3:15 p.m. as the girl was walking home from school.
Video footage from a neighbor’s security camera showed the man approaching the young girl from behind and fondling her as he tried to drag her away.
Luckily, a neighbor saw what was happening and shouted at the man.
“Hey, leave her alone!” the woman, identified only by her first name, Ivonne, can be heard yelling.
The man was startled, giving the young girl a chance to run away.
Ivonne told the police the man claimed the girl was his niece, but Ivonne and her brother didn’t believe him. The two chased after the suspect, but he got into a gray Nissan Kicks and fled the scene. Police said his vehicle had a spare tire installed on the rear passenger side.
Authorities have asked the public for help locating the suspect, who is about 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 240 pounds. Anyone who may have information about the suspect can contact detectives by calling (800) 222-TIPS.
