WATCH: JD Vance Fumbles Ohio State’s National Championship Trophy

Vice President JD Vance fumbled the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy during the Ohio State Buckeyes‘ visit to the White House on Monday (April 14).

Vance, an Ohio State alum, held up the top half of the trophy while the Buckeyes posed for photos on the White House lawn. The vice president joked that he “didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy so I decided to break it” in a post shared on his X account.

The White House national championship celebration included appearances by the Buckeyes players, head coach Ryan Day, Vance, President Donald Trump, Secretary of Defense Marco Rubio, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Gov. Jim Tressel, who had previously coached Ohio State to a BCS national championship in 2022.

The Buckeyes defeated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 34-23, during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on January 20. Ohio State is the first team to win in the new 12-team playoff format, having also won the first national title during the original four-team College Football Playoff format 10 years prior.

The Buckeyes defeated Tennessee, Oregon and Texas in the College Football Playoff en route to their national title victory against Notre Dame.
