Walmart and Wing, a drone company owned by Alphabet, announced plans to expand their drone delivery service to 150 Walmart locations over the next year, including Los Angeles.
The expansion aims to reach over 40 million additional customers in major metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Miami. Orders are expected to arrive within 30 minutes.
The initiative builds on the success of their operations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and Metro Atlanta, where drone delivery has become a regular part of daily life. According to Axios, Wing’s top 25% of customers have been ordering three times a week, with delivery volumes tripling in the last six months.
Greg Cathey, Senior Vice President of Digital Fulfillment Transformation at Walmart, emphasized the importance of drone delivery in meeting customer needs quickly. “Drone delivery plays an important role in our ability to deliver what customers want, exactly when they want it,” he said.
Wing CEO Adam Woodworth highlighted the reliability and speed of their service, stating that even the smallest packages deserve fast delivery. The expansion is set to continue with operations starting in Houston on January 15.
The network is expected to grow to over 270 drone delivery locations by 2027, stretching from Los Angeles to Miami.
