A video shared online shows a reckless crash during the Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade in Florida that resulted in multiple injuries.
The Instagram account @TheQualifiedCaptain shared footage of what appears to be a jet car boat — a modified watercraft that looks like a car but is technically a boat — losing control and crashing into another boat at a high speed.
“Last night in Merritt Island Florida, at the Merritt Island Christmas boat parade, things went south REAL fast,” the Instagram account wrote. “No need for this nonsense.. especially at a highly trafficked boat parade.”
Three people were hospitalized in relation to the crash, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission confirmed via WESH.
“At least no one died from it,” said Terry Thorn, a witness at the scene, via WESH.
Merritt Island Christmas Boat Parade officials condemned the actions of the man driving the jet car boat in a Facebook post.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in last nights accident,” the organizers wrote. “We don’t have any information on the driver of the boat as this vessel was not registered in this years parade and are trusting the situation is in good hands with local law enforcement.
“We do not condone this type of reckless activity and will work with local law enforcement to make sure this type of activity is immediately rectified in the future.
“Thank You to the boaters who practiced safe boating and stuck to the route, we will continue working hard to ensure this tradition still remains a safe local favorite!”
