A minivan crashed into a crowd in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday, injuring nine people, including three children. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. in Santee Alley, a popular open-air market in the Fashion District, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Seven of the injured were hospitalized in fair condition, while two others were released against medical advice.
The crash took place on the 300 block of East 12th Street, where the minivan collided with several concrete barriers and a structure, causing a partial collapse of a yellow and red awning. The scene was cordoned off by emergency crews, and the Los Angeles Police Department advised the public to expect delays on 12th Street between Maple and Santee streets as the investigation continued.
According to the Los Angeles Times, it remains unclear whether the driver or any passengers in the van were injured. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but authorities have stated there is no evidence suggesting drugs, alcohol, or intentional actions were involved.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division is handling the investigation, and no arrests have been made at this time. As reported by Yahoo News, officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
