United Airlines Flight Makes Emergency Landing at LAX

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A New Jersey-bound United Airlines jet with nearly 270 people aboard made an emergency landing back at Los Angeles International Airport Monday after developing an engine problem, but there were no reports of any injuries.

United Flight 2127, which departed LAX bound for Newark at roughly 10:45 a.m. landed back at the airport about a little over half and hour later “to address an issue with one of the engines,” according to a statement from the airline.

The plane, a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, taxiied to a remote part of the airfield. Video from the scene showed Los Angeles Fire Department crews dousing one of the plane’s engines, with some smoke visible from the under-wing engine compartment.

According to United, there were 256 passengers aboard the flight and 12 crew members. The passengers and crew disembarked the plane via slides and air stairs and were taken by buses to the terminal. There were no reported injuries.

“We’re working to get our customers to their final destinations,” according to United.

The Federal Aviation Administration issued a nationwide ground stop of flights bound for LAX due to the emergency landing, but that stop was lifted shortly after noon.
