The United States launched strikes against Iran in response to an attack on a Singapore-flagged cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident occurred on Thursday (June 25), when Iranian drones hit the M/V Ever Lovely, causing damage. In response, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that U.S. aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage locations, as well as coastal radar sites.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes were a powerful response to Iran’s unwarranted aggression, which violated a ceasefire agreement and endangered freedom of navigation in the vital trade corridor. President Donald Trump confirmed the attack on the Singapore ship and hinted at a U.S. response, stating, “you’ll see” when asked about potential actions.
The International Maritime Organization paused a planned evacuation for ships in the waterway following the incident. CENTCOM emphasized its commitment to ensuring safe passage for commercial vessels transiting the strait and maintaining adherence to the ceasefire agreement.
The U.S. military’s presence in the region remains strong, with ongoing support and coordination for commercial shipping. This latest development highlights the ongoing tensions between the U.S. and Iran, with potential for further escalation.
