U.S. Fugitive Nabbed In Mexico Working As A Cop 20 Years After Killing

After 20 years on the run, 62-year-old fugitive Antonio Riano was arrested in Mexico. Riano, who is also known as “The Devil,” was wanted in the United States for a fatal shooting outside of an Ohio bar in 2004.

Riano was working as a local police officer in Zapotitlan Palmas when he was taken into custody. He was transferred to Mexico City and then flown to Ohio, where he is being held at Butler County Jail.

Prosecutors said that Riano fatally shot 25-year-old Benjamin Becarra outside the Roundhouse Bar in Hamilton. Investigators found the gun used to shoot Becarra in Riano’s bathroom. He was charged with murder but fled the country to avoid prosecution.

In 2005, Riano was featured in an episode of Fox’s America’s Most Wanted.

“This type of apprehension would not be possible without the cooperation and due diligence of both the Prosecutor’s Office investigators, the United States Marshal Service, and the United States Department of Justice,” Michael T. Gmoser, Butler County Prosecutor, said.
