Two Shot to Death in Palms Were Apparent Murder-Suicide, Police Say

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The deaths of a man and woman who were found with gunshot wounds in the Palms area earlier this week were an apparent murder-suicide, authorities said Friday.

Officers were called at about 1:30 p.m. Monday to the 9700 block of Regent Street, and found the two people dead at the scene with gunshot wounds, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Cervantes.

The deaths were preliminarily investigated by police as a possible murder-suicide, but other details were not released by police, including their relationship to one another.

On Friday, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office identified the man as Frederick Holtz, 65, listing his manner of death as “homicide” and his cause of death as “multiple gunshot wounds.”

The coroner’s office also identified the woman as Barbara Wheeler, 57, listing her manner of death as “suicide” and her cause of death as “gunshot wounds of head.”
