Trump Visits Arlington National Cemetery To Mark Memorial Day

President Donald Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery on Monday (May 25) to honor those who have sacrificed their lives for the United States. During the Memorial Day ceremony, he delivered a speech remembering fallen soldiers, including those who died before the country declared its independence 250 years ago.

President Trump participated in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a tradition that highlights the solemnity of the day. Members of the Third U.S. Infantry Regiment, known as The Old Guard, placed hundreds of thousands of American flags on graves at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the “Flags In” tradition, which has been observed since 1948.

The ceremony was part of the 158th National Memorial Day Observance, held in the Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery. Pre-event programming began at 10:45 a.m., with the formal program starting at noon. The observance included a parade of colors by veterans’ organizations and remarks from dignitaries, as noted by the Arlington National Cemetery website.

The event, free and open to the public, also featured a livestream on DVIDS for those unable to attend in person. As part of the day’s activities, visitors had the opportunity to walk across the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier plaza and place flowers, provided by the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Foundation, at headstones throughout the cemetery.
