President Donald Trump had yet another testy exchange with CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins while addressing the controversial “Signal” messaging incident involving top administration officials during a press briefing on Tuesday (March 25).
Collins attempted to ask Trump questions about the incident in which Jeffrey Goldberg, the Atlantic magazine’s editor in chief, insists he saw “minute-by-minute accounting” of how the United States intended to bomb Yemen, before he sharply cut her off with, “Excuse me, I didn’t pick you,” diverting to another reporter in the gallery. The incident is the latest involving Collins, who had previously served as CNN‘s White House correspondent during Trump’s first administration and later as an anchor, and the current administration.
Last week, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded, “You’re a reporter, you should find out,” when Collins asked her for evidence following Trump’s claim that pardons signed by former President Joe Biden were “void” and “vacant” because they were allegedly signed by autopen without his knowledge.
Trump also took aim at Collins, CNN and Biden while discussing the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine when Collins asked if he trusted Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“This should’ve been done by Biden years ago, this should’ve never been allowed to happen. I know he’s a friend of yours, he’s a friend of CNN. That’s why nobody watches CNN anymore because they have no credibility.”
Trump also ripped Collins during a testy exchange after she pressed him about “blaming” the Democrats and diversity, equity and inclusion policies for the deadly collision between an American Airlines passenger plane and a black hawk helicopter over Ronald Reagan International Airport in January.
“I think that’s not a very smart question,” Trump responded, claiming he could give Collins a list of names of the victims and that the White House was working closely with American Airlines and the military.
Collins also claimed that Trump was “blaming air traffic controllers” before the president responded, “I’m surprised coming from you” and shifted his attention to another reporter.
