Jasveen Sangha, accused of selling the fatal dose of ketamine to actor Matthew Perry, will face trial starting September 23 in Los Angeles. Sangha, dubbed “The Ketamine Queen,” is charged with five counts of ketamine distribution, including one count resulting in death. She has pleaded not guilty and has been in federal custody since her arrest last year.
The trial was initially scheduled for August 19 but was postponed for the fourth time since her indictment in April 2024. The delay was agreed upon by both parties to allow Sangha’s defense team more time to review the extensive evidence and complete their investigation.
Sangha is the only remaining defendant in the case, as four others, including two doctors, have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with prosecutors. One of the key figures in the investigation, Dr. Salvador Plasencia, admitted to ketamine distribution last month.
Matthew Perry, known for his role in “Friends,” died at 54 on October 23, 2023. He had been using ketamine for depression treatment but sought additional supplies from Sangha and others when his regular doctor limited his access. According to prosecutors, Perry’s assistant and friend acted as intermediaries, purchasing 25 vials of ketamine from Sangha for $6,000 shortly before his death. These doses are alleged to have led to Perry’s overdose.
ABC7 reports that the trial is expected to draw significant attention, given the high-profile nature of the case and the involvement of multiple defendants in the drug distribution network.
