Brazilian authorities are now investigating the death of child actress Millena Brandão, best known for roles in the soap opera The Childhood of Romeo and Juliet and the Netflix series Sintonia, according to the Daily Mail.
Brandão’s parents reportedly filed a police report one day after her death accusing an urgent care center, two hospitals and staffers of neglect. The 11-year-old actress was hospitalized in São Paulo for severe headaches last Wednesday (May 30) and diagnosed with a brain tumor, according to a post shared by her mother on Instagram, and also reported to have suffered at least 13 heart attacks while hospitalized, according to multiple reports.
Antonio Toninho, a lawyer representing Brandão’s family, said they were still in the mourning process and would have a decision moving forward.
‘Before making any decision, we are reviewing all the facts and gathering all the documents,’ Toninho told the Brazilian news outlet G1 via the Daily Mail.
Brandão’s parents announced their daughter’s death in posts shared on her official Instagram account earlier this week.
“The memories we spent together will remain in my memory and I’ll never forget your joy that was contagious to everyone around you,” Brandão’s mother wrote in a translated Instagram post. “My girl, I’m already missing you not being here and I know I’ll miss you even more in the days to come. You were the light in our lives and I know that from up there you’ll continue to watch over us and light up our lives. And I’ll love you forever, and you’ll always be in my heart.”
