Tornado Tears Through Texas, Damaging Over 100 Homes

A tornado struck parts of Harris County, Texas, including Houston, on Monday (November 24), causing significant damage to over 100 homes. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado and is set to assess its intensity on Tuesday (November 25). Another potential tornado is being investigated in Austin and Waller counties.

The tornado caused extensive damage in the Memorial Northwest neighborhood, where first responders searched debris for any injured or trapped residents. Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman emphasized the priority of resident safety, stating, “We are using every resource available to locate the injured, secure the area, and support our community through this emergency.”

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far.

The storm also affected the Harris County Emergency Services District 11 campus, damaging a maintenance building but leaving all staff safe. Two employees inside the building at the time were unharmed. The tornado’s path snapped trees and caused a gas leak, which was quickly contained.

The tornado comes as a storm system moves across the country, impacting travel plans for the Thanksgiving holiday. The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects a record 82 million people to travel during this period. The weather service forecasts cooler and drier conditions in southeast Texas, with no rain expected for the rest of the week.
