`Top Gun: Maverick’ Still Far Above the Pack with $86 Million

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Top Gun: Maverick” grossed a massive $86 million in its second weekend at North American theaters, easily beating all other films at the box office, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The sequel to 1986’s hit starring Tom Cruise as a cocky Navy fighter pilot set a Memorial Day weekend record last week by grossing $124 million in its first three days at theaters in the United States and Canada, and has now grossed $291 million domestically to become Cruise’s all-time top moneymaker.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was in second place with $9.25 million in its fifth week of release, Comscore reported.

“The Bob’s Burgers Movie” made $4.5 million Friday through Sunday in its second weekend for third place.

“The Bad Guys” grossed $3.3 million in its seventh weekend, followed by “Downton Abbey: A New Era” with $3 million in its third week.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Everything Everywhere All at Once” ($2 million), “Vikram” ($1.77 million), “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” ($1.72 million), “The Lost City” ($1.38 million) and “Crimes of the Future” ($1.1 million).
