A 33-year-old man was arrested after threatening violence against Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California, leading to a lockdown on Friday). The suspect, who had been a patient in the emergency room earlier that day, called the hospital around 2 p.m. after being discharged, threatening a violent attack, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times.
The threat prompted a Code Silver alert, which indicates a potential active shooter or hostage situation, and led to the lockdown of the hospital, particularly affecting the emergency room. Incoming ambulances were rerouted to other hospitals, and entry to the facility was restricted. KTLA reported that the suspect was later arrested by authorities in Los Angeles and transferred to the Pasadena Police Department. The motive behind the threat remains unclear, and officials have not released the suspect’s name.
The lockdown lasted for several hours, with the hospital resuming normal operations around 6:30 p.m. Hospital staff received an “all-clear” alert shortly before 7:30 p.m. The incident follows two other swatting incidents earlier in the week in Southern California, though the threat to Huntington Hospital was deemed legitimate and not a swatting case.
