Secret Beach, a secluded cove on Oregon’s southern coast, has been named the best place in America for a digital detox, according to a new ranking by Beach.com. This hidden gem in Curry County leads a list of over 800 U.S. beaches analyzed for their ability to help visitors unplug and escape digital distractions.
The ranking considered factors such as limited broadband and mobile coverage, the density of commercial businesses, and proximity to protected lands. Secret Beach scored a “Digital Detox Score” of 9.5 out of 10, the highest in the nation. About 74 percent of Curry County is protected land, and only half the county has reliable mobile coverage. The beach area averages just 0.3 businesses per square mile, making commercial noise almost nonexistent.
Secret Beach is tucked between the towns of Gold Beach and Brookings and can be reached via a wooded trail off U.S. Highway 101, within the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor. The beach is flanked by tall rock formations and features Miller Creek running down to the cove, creating a rugged, untouched landscape.
Beach.com’s analysis also showed that 22 percent of online reviews specifically mentioned the beach’s quiet and isolation, highlighting its appeal for those seeking to disconnect. The study emphasized that Secret Beach’s lack of connectivity is not a bug—it’s a feature that makes digital detox easier for visitors.
Other top-ranked beaches for digital detox include Mashes Sands Beach in Wakulla County, Florida, and Third Beach in Jefferson County, Washington. Crescent Beach in Ecola State Park, Oregon, was also recognized for the high number of reviews mentioning digital detox benefits.
As interest in digital detox vacations grows, Secret Beach stands out for its natural isolation and minimal distractions, offering a unique retreat for those looking to step away from screens and enjoy Oregon’s scenic coastline.
