In a daring heist, thieves stole over $2 million in cash and merchandise from 5 Star Jewelry and Watch Repair in Simi Valley, California. The robbery occurred just before midnight on Sunday (May 25), when the suspects gained access by cutting a hole in the roof of a neighboring candy shop, Dr. Conkey’s Candy & Coffee. Surveillance footage captured the burglars army-crawling through the candy shop before drilling through the wall into the jewelry store’s safe.
The store owner, Jonathan Youssef, described the break-in as life-altering, stating, “Everything that he built for me and my family is now gone. His retirement is gone. My future and my children’s future is now needing to be rebuilt.” The thieves made off with luxury watches, gold jewelry, and irreplaceable heirloom pieces belonging to customers.
According to ABC7, the alarm system did not trigger during the three-hour operation, leading business owners to suspect a professional robbery. Ted Mackel, owner of the candy shop, expressed concern for the community, saying, “We’re all emotionally affected by Jacob’s loss, and as business owners, we worry who’s next.”
The Simi Valley Police Department has not yet released any information about the suspects.
