Tesla Diner’s Giant Movie Screen Blocks Views From Apartment Complex

A new four-story-tall movie screen at Tesla’s Hollywood Diner & Drive-In is causing a stir in the neighborhood because one of the four-story-tall screens on the property completely blocks the views from baclonies at a neighboring apartment complex.

The diner, located at 7001 Santa Monica Blvd, opened to the public on Monday. The diner blends 1950s nostalgia with modern technology, includes 80 Supercharger stations, a retro-themed menu, and roller-skating servers. Tesla CEO Elon Musk praised the diner, calling it “one of the coolest spots in LA.” The diner is open 24/7, adding to its appeal as a unique destination in Los Angeles.

KTLA’s Mark Kriski highlighted the issue about the movie screen asking, “What happens to those people with their balconies, and their view?” Reporter Ellina Abovian said simply, “They lost their view… People had a view of West Hollywood, and now that view is lost.” According to KTLA, it is unclear if anyone currently resides in the affected units.

Despite the excitement surrounding the diner, the screen’s impact on apartment views remains a concern. As reported by Yahoo News, restaurant patron Roman commented on the screens, saying, “That is a huge ouchy for their eyes.”

Tesla has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter. The diner, first proposed by Musk in 2018, began construction in September 2023 after receiving necessary permits. It officially opened after a soft launch with local first responders and Tesla enthusiasts.
