A tragic accident at Campbell Hall, a private school in Studio City resulted in the death of a 15-year-old boy and injuries to five others on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to reports of the incident just after 3 p.m. The boy was struck by a green 2025 Rivian SUV while crossing the parking lot and was pinned between two vehicles. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The crash occurred during school pick-up time, and the driver of the Rivian is cooperating with the investigation. The cause of the crash remains unclear, but there is speculation that the driver may have accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. Two other students and three adults sustained non-life-threatening injuries, as reported by KTLA.
L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath expressed her condolences, saying, “My heart is with the entire Campbell Hall community during this tragic time.” The Mayor’s Crisis Response Team was dispatched to provide emotional support to those affected. School officials announced that classes and exams would be canceled on Thursday, and counselors would be available in the Garver Gym for support.
The Los Angeles Police Department has stated that no charges will be filed, as the incident is considered a tragic accident. The driver of the Rivian is not facing any criminal charges, according to ABC News.
