Authorities have arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old boy at Fig/Oleander Park in Compton. The shooting occurred on Friday around 4 p.m., and the victim was found shot in the stomach, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. First responders provided aid, but the boy later died at a hospital.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released due to his age, was apprehended in Los Angeles at about 10 a.m. on Sunday. He was booked on suspicion of murder and taken to a juvenile detention facility. The arrest followed an investigation that identified the suspect based on evidence from the scene. Witnesses described the shooter as a male wearing all-black clothing, including a ski mask, and running northbound on Oleander Avenue after the shooting.
