A man suspected of stabbing an Orange County sheriff’s deputy in San Clemente on Tuesday (March 18) has been apprehended. The suspect, Moses Paulisin, 35, was arrested by California State Park officers on Wednesday (March 19) at San Onofre State Beach, approximately eight miles from the scene of the incident, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The attack occurred during a routine homeless outreach near the 1700 block of Avenida Estacion. The female deputy was injured in the neck but was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and later released from the hospital. Paulisin, described as a transient, allegedly fled the scene following the attack.
Authorities have charged Paulisin with attempted murder, resisting arrest, and assault with a deadly weapon. The case is expected to proceed through the legal system, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.
This incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety during outreach activities and the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing interactions with transient populations. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
