Strong Winds, Freezing Temps to Hit Southern California

Southern California is bracing for a dry storm system that will bring strong winds and freezing temperatures to Los Angeles and Ventura counties this week. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the storm will produce widespread gusty conditions, especially in the Antelope Valley, interior valleys, and mountain areas. Overnight lows are expected to fall near or below freezing across inland communities through Friday morning.

The NWS forecasts that winds will start increasing early Monday, with gusts reaching about 45 miles per hour in coastal and valley areas and around 35 miles per hour along the Malibu coast. Stronger gusts, up to 50 miles per hour, are predicted for the San Gabriel and Santa Susana mountains. Midweek, the mountains could see gusts up to 55 miles per hour, while coastal and valley areas may experience gusts between 35 and 45 miles per hour.

Such conditions may create difficult driving for high-profile vehicles, blow away unsecured outdoor items, damage temporary structures, and bring down tree limbs. The NWS warns of potential damage to sensitive crops and a moderate risk of hypothermia for unsheltered people and animals.

KTLA reports that the coldest mornings are expected on Tuesday (December 2), Thursday (December 4), and Friday (December 5), with parts of the interior, especially the Antelope Valley, seeing temperatures near or below freezing.

The public is advised to secure outdoor items and exercise caution while driving. For the latest updates, the NWS encourages people to visit their official website or contact them via email or phone.
