Storm to Bring Rain, Cooler Temps to Southern California

Southern California is preparing for a significant weather shift as a storm system moves into the region this week. The storm, expected to bring rain and snow, will cause temperatures to drop by as much as 20 degrees in some areas. According to the Los Angeles Times, the storm is part of a fast-moving atmospheric river that will first hit Northern California on Wednesday before reaching Southern California on Thursday.

Rain is expected to begin as early as Wednesday night, with the heaviest rainfall likely occurring from Thursday morning into Thursday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts that coastal and valley areas could receive one to two inches of rain, while mountain and foothill regions may see two to four inches. Some areas might even receive up to five inches.

The storm could also bring strong winds, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in certain areas. The NWS has warned of potential flooding, debris flows in burn areas, and localized freeway flooding, particularly during the Thursday evening rush hour in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.

Snow levels are expected to remain high, with snowfall likely at elevations above 7,000 feet. The storm is expected to taper off into showers by Friday afternoon, with lingering moisture potentially lasting through Saturday. Cooler but drier weather is anticipated over the weekend, with another storm possibly arriving early next week, according to FOX LA.
