State Senator Shoved Down, Arrested Trying To Enter Georgia House Chamber

Georgia State Senator Colton Moore was arrested on Thursday (January 16) after attempting to enter the Georgia House chamber despite being previously banned. The incident occurred during Governor Brian Kemp‘s State of the State speech. Moore, a Republican from Trenton, was involved in a confrontation with House employees as he tried to push past them to enter the chamber.

Despite several warnings, Moore continued to push into the officers, leading to his arrest.

House Speaker Jon Burns had banned Moore from the chamber last year after Moore criticized the late House Speaker David Ralston, calling him “one of the most corrupt Georgia leaders.” Burns deemed Moore’s remarks “vile” and stated the ban would remain until Moore apologized.

Moore, however, argued that he had a constitutional obligation to attend the joint House-Senate session, stating, “You cannot impede a General Assembly session.”

Moore was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement officers after being handcuffed and taken to Fulton County Jail. He was released on a $1,000 bond.

Speaker Burns called the situation “incredibly unfortunate.”
