State Senator Charged With Soliciting A Minor For Prostitution

Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn resigned on Thursday (March 20) after being charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution. Eichorn, a Republican from Grand Rapids, submitted his resignation via email, which was confirmed by Minnesota Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson. Eichorn’s resignation is effective immediately.

Eichorn was arrested on Monday in Bloomington during an undercover operation targeting the solicitation of minors. According to the criminal complaint, he responded to an online ad placed by investigators and corresponded with an undercover officer posing as a 17-year-old girl. He was taken into custody upon arriving at the meeting location.

The charges were filed on Wednesday, prompting calls from fellow Republicans for Eichorn’s resignation. Senate Minority Leader Mark Johnson had planned to motion for Eichorn’s expulsion during a Senate floor session on Thursday, but the resignation preempted this action. Johnson stated, “This is the right thing to do for his family and the Senate.”

Governor Tim Walz also urged Eichorn to resign following his arrest. In his resignation letter to the governor, Eichorn stated, “I must focus on personal matters at this time. It has been an honor to serve in the Minnesota Senate.”
