Robert Edwards, the creator of ‘Squatty Potty,’ was arrested on charges accusing him of buying countless child sex abuse materials, the US Attorney’s Office in the District of Utah on Monday (February 23).
Edwards, 50, who became a multimillionaire after launching a specialized toilet stool to ease bowel movement, allegedly bought and received a trove of images depicting child sexual abuse between March 2021 and November 2025, having been indicted on February 10 and arrested two days later, according to authorities. An undercover FBI agent joined a group chat used to trade child sexual abuse material in March 2021 and found that there was a meeting room where members viewed a collection of content streamed on a main screen with participants, including one later identified as Edwards, visible during the meeting. FBI agents also learned that Edwards potentially purchased additional child sex abuse material through his PayPal after his account was flagged for four suspicious transactions in May 2025.
A search warrant was executed on Edwards and his home in November and his confiscated cellphone was reported to have “contained multiple videos and images of child sexual abuse material,” included some downloaded just two weeks prior, according to officials. Additional devices seized at Edwards’ residence also included more child sex abuse material.
Edwards pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography during his initial St. George court appearance and Judge Paul Kohler ruled that he be held without bail. The businessman co-founded Squatty Potty to address his mother Judy‘s constipation issues in 2011 and the two successfully pitched the concept on Shark Tank.
