Spring Break Hot Spot Rocked By 5 Shootings Over The Weekend

Daytona Beach, Florida, a popular spring break destination, experienced a tumultuous weekend with five separate shootings that sent visitors running for cover. The incidents, which occurred over the weekend, resulted in a police officer being hospitalized with gunshot wounds.

The chaos began on Friday (March 14) when a shot was fired after a fight at The Joint Bar on Seabreeze Boulevard. Although no one was injured by the gunfire, the altercation caused panic among patrons. An hour later, another shooting occurred outside a nearby Crunch Fitness, leaving one person injured.

On Saturday, two more shootings took place near the beach. One incident happened outside the Crusin’ Cafe, where a large fight broke out, and a firearm was discharged, injuring one person. The police are still investigating the incidents and have not yet made any arrests.

The weekend’s violence continued on Sunday when South Daytona Beach Police Officer Jake Fessenden was shot while responding to reports of a shooting near Country Lane. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Todd Anthony Martin, fled the scene, leading officers on a chase along I-95. During the pursuit, Martin crashed his vehicle and opened fire on police, striking Officer Fessenden. Both Fessenden and Martin were hospitalized, with Fessenden expected to recover and Martin in critical condition.

The Daytona Beach Police Department is investigating whether any of the shootings are related to spring break activities. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
