SoCalGas has launched a new program to accelerate gas service restoration in the fire-affected areas of Altadena and Pacific Palisades. The utility company announced that it has already restored service to nearly 16,000 customers in the Eaton and Palisades fire zones.
The infrastructure of SoCalGas in these areas remains largely undamaged due to its underground placement, allowing the company to continue serving customers as they return to rebuild their homes and businesses. According to SoCalGas, customers or licensed contractors are encouraged to request service restoration during the planning stages of their rebuilding projects.
SoCalGas representatives will conduct several site visits throughout the process to ensure proper placement of natural gas meters and to evaluate the projected gas needs of each property. Only authorized SoCalGas personnel may reconnect services, and they will perform safety checks on all appliances during the reconnection process.
The company advises residents to call 811 before starting any digging or excavation work to have utility lines safely marked. This service is free and helps prevent damage to underground utilities.
