Sixth Graders Detained for Gun Possession at Fountain Valley Middle School

Three sixth-grade students were detained at Vista View Middle School in Fountain Valley after a semiautomatic handgun and ammunition were found in one of their backpacks. The incident occurred on Monday when Fountain Valley police responded to reports of a student possibly possessing a firearm, according to a KTLA report.

Officers searched the students’ backpacks and discovered the weapon and ammunition. Two of the students were arrested and booked at Orange County Juvenile Hall, while the third was taken to a hospital for suspected mental health issues. The preliminary investigation indicates there was no intention of an active shooting, and there is no ongoing threat to campus safety, as noted by the Fountain Valley Police Department.

Patricia Singer, board president of the Ocean View School District, stated that administrators were alerted to the situation shortly before the end of the school day, and police were called immediately. The district is pursuing disciplinary action, including possible expulsion, in accordance with the California Education Code. The identities of the students have not been released due to their age, and it remains unclear how the firearm was obtained.

To ensure continued safety, the Fountain Valley Police Department will maintain an increased presence at the school in the coming days, as reported by Yahoo News.
