Sir David Beckham Knighted By King Charles

Soccer legend David Beckham was knighted by King Charles III during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Tuesday (November 4).

King Charles tapped Beckham, 50, on his shoulders with the blade of a sword, transforming him to Sir David Beckham and his wife, Spice Girls singer VictoriaPoshBeckham, to Lady Beckham.

“This is without doubt my proudest moment,” Beckham said during the ceremony via the Associated Press. “I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done, but to receive an honor like this, of a knight, is beyond anything that I ever thought that I would receive.”

Beckham was knighted for his services to sports and charity, having partnered with UNICEF for two decades and supporting the ‘Malaria No More’ charity that works to eradicate the infectious disease, while also playing a key role in London being awarded the 2012 Summer Olympic Games. Beckham’s soccer achievements include being the only English player to score in three different World Cup tournaments, having made 115 international appearances and captaining 59 matches, as well as leading Manchester United to a triple-winning campaign of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles in 1999.

Beckham later played for the La Liga’s Real Madrid, Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles Galaxy and Ligue 1’s Paris Saint-Germain and is now the co-owner of the Inter Miami MLS franchise.
