The Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center in Huntington Beach, California, is facing a surge of sick seabirds, straining its resources. Since Monday (March 17), the center has taken in nearly 75 seabirds. The influx has put significant pressure on the facility’s space, medications, and staff hours.
Veterinarian Dr. Elizabeth Wood described the situation as “pushing our resources to the limit.” The center is working tirelessly to care for the birds, which are arriving in large numbers due to a mysterious mass stranding event affecting pelicans in Southern California.
The center, which relies heavily on donations and volunteer support, is seeking additional help to manage the situation. They are calling on the community for support in terms of both financial contributions and volunteer time to help care for the birds.
