Los Angeles Dodgers’ star Shohei Ohtani has announced his debut children’s book, “Decoy Saves Opening Day,” co-authored with Michael Blank. The book, set for release in February 2026, features Ohtani’s dog, Decoy, in a story where Decoy must retrieve his lucky baseball before the first pitch of Opening Day. The cover, illustrated by Fanny Liem, shows Ohtani and Decoy with a baseball in the dog’s mouth.
Ohtani shared the book’s cover on Instagram, revealing his excitement about the project. The book aims to support animal rescue organizations, reflecting Ohtani’s commitment to helping dogs find forever homes, as stated by HarperCollins.
Ohtani, a three-time MVP, continues to excel in Major League Baseball, hitting .276 with 32 home runs and 60 RBIs this season. He recently returned to pitching after elbow surgery and has maintained a 1.00 ERA in five appearances. The book’s release will coincide with the start of Ohtani’s ninth MLB season, as reported by CBS Sports.
